    Principal Barraza Welcomes You!

Welcome to Sparks Elementary School, home of the  2021-2022 honoree:  CA Pivotal Practice Award,  District HLPUSD Teacher of the year, Mrs. Dina De La O-Johnson, and our 2022-23 Teacher of the year is Mrs. Lina Bak!

Our Sparks faculty and staff have created a school grounded in traditional school values and we are preparing our students to have a college-bound attitude.  Our teachers and staff are collaborative, innovative, and genuinely care for every child. We are continuing to implement NPDL, https://deep-learning.global/.

Our school's enrollment Tk-6 is very stable and growing. Sparks Elementary is truly a remarkable school with exceptional students, parents, and staff.  It is an honor and privilege to work with all of you.  I look forward to a post-pandemic school year by providing your children with endless possibilities for growth.  Be advised, that Sparks teachers, staff, and administration are following HLPUSD, County of Los Angeles Public Health Dept. and CDE mandates, recommendations, and protocols to manage the pandemic we are all faced with at this time.

Be assured Sparks Elementary will continue to mitigate safety and healthy-minded practices to help our defense against Covid-19 and its variants.

Last year we added iPads and laptops along with hotspots to help navigate Lexia, Dreambox, AR, and the Canvas programs.  To aid students we have incorporated academic enrichment and intervention programs across the curriculum.

This year, we will continue to provide students meaningful opportunities to deepen their knowledge of technology and increase their computer skills using their classroom laptops within their classrooms.  Finally, we do offer the after-school program Boys and Girls Club from 2:05 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

    DISTRICT Teacher of the Year!

    MRS. DINA DE LA O-JOHNSON

Congratulations Sparks Elementary School Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Dina De La O-Johnson. Mrs. De La O is a proud graduate of La Puente High School, Sparks Middle School and Sparks Elementary School. Mrs. De La O earned her master's degree in history from Cal Poly Pomona and her bachelor's degree with clear teaching credentials from University of La Verne.

Everyone at Sparks knows Mrs. De La O has an enormous, gentle heart. She is creative, optimistic, and has a good sense of humor and possesses a "CAN DO" attitude.

Mrs. De La O is an active member of our site leadership team, SSC and NPDL. Dina is loved by our Spark's community of students, teachers, and parents.

Recently, she shared, "It's the 'aha' moments as I watch the children's eyes light up when they are learning. I love those moments!"

Most recently, Dina was honored by the LA Clippers teacher appreciation program. She was recognized as a teacher of the month. Bravo, teacher of the year, Mrs. Dina De La O-Johnson!
