Dear Sparks Parents and Families,

Welcome to our new and returning families! I hope this letter finds you well and enjoying your summer vacation 2025. We at Sparks Elementary School look forward to an exciting and successful year working as partners with you to provide your child with the highest quality education possible. 

Please take a moment to read the following information, which outlines important dates and other information that will help make your child’s school year start off in a positive way. If you have questions after reviewing this information, please stop in or call the school office at (626) 933-5101.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL – Wednesday, August 6, 2025 – Mark your calendars!

ASES – BOYS AND GIRLS AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM: If you’d like your child to attend the after-school program, get in touch with Boys and Girls Club at REGISTER at https://bit.ly/hlpases Remember, spaces are limited. Everyone reapplies for the program. 626-855-1552 and/or Apply online: https://sites.google.com/hlpusd.k12.ca.us/after-school-program/home

SCHOOL ATTENDANCE: Attendance is critical: Students should be here on time daily 170 days of the 180 days of school. This allows for 10 sick days per year if needed. Make sure, if your child is absent, to call the office. Coming to school is vital and we will focus on student attendance from the beginning.

DATA CONFIRMATION: Please log into your Aeries Parent Portal https://hlpusd.aeries.net/student/LoginParent.aspx and complete ALL DATA CONFIRMATION for each child. By completing this process, you ensure the emergency contact information is updated. Everyone eats free for breakfast & lunch. No meal application needed. It is very important to have all families complete the Income Section Survey. 2024-2025 Classes: You will see your child's teacher in AERIES on or about July 30th after you have completed your Data Confirmation.

UNIFORM POLICY/DRESS CODE: Our uniform colors are dark blue (dodger blue) and yellow with white. Students should wear neat and clean clothing and closed-toe shoes. Wednesdays will be your favorite College Days and students are encouraged to wear Eagle Gear and/or uniform the rest of the week. Families in Action will be selling Sparks Eagles Gear. We are highly encouraging students to come to school in uniform. This is going to be another focus area. Please make sure students are dressed for learning, free from inappropriate logos, inappropriate writing, holes, etc.

BREAKFAST AND LUNCH: Breakfast and lunch is FREE for all students every single day. We serve breakfast between 7:15 a.m. and 7:45 a.m.

DROP OFF/PICK UP AND PARKING LOT SAFETY: Plan on dropping off your child beginning at 7:15 a.m. Let’s work together to keep students and staff safe by following all traffic and respecting city crossing guards and our parking lot conned areas.

STUDENT DISMISSALS: All students have a Designated Exit Gate Everyday:

  • 1:55 p.m. Grades TK and Kindergarten Exit Gate K~1
  • 1:55 p.m. First Grade Exit Gate Front Office Black Main Gate
  • 1:55 p.m. Second Grade Exit Gate Classroom 1
  • 1:55 p.m. Third Grade Exit Gate Classroom 9 & 10
  • 2:05 p.m. Fourth Grade Exit Gate Classroom 10
  • 2:05 p.m. Fifth Grade Exit Gate Classroom 14 Westside of Campus
  • 1:00 p.m. SDC Exit Gate Classroom 14 Westside of Campus

CLASS TIMES:

  • TK, Kindergarten, First, Second & Third Grades: 8:00 a.m. to 1:55 p.m.
  • Fourth & Fifth: 8:00 a.m. to 2:05 p.m. 

PARENT SQUARE–PARENT/SCHOOL COMMUNICATION APP: We use the ParentSquare app for all school-related communication. If you have not done so, please DOWNLOAD the app and set your notifications to on. You can choose your preferred language on this app as well. If you have questions, please contact our school office. All of Principal Barraza, school and teacher updates are sent out via Parent Square as needed. It is important that you download this app.
